Soundscape

Here's my Soundscape, our theme was ANXIETY..

  1. I thought this soundscape did a great job of representing anxiety. As it starts with intense piano and then the ticking of a clock, it makes me feel anxious already. Almost always does the ticking of a clock do this and it was a great choice to add it here. The use of fast paced music and the rapid changing of the pictures manipulated time so that I felt as if I were being rushed. The entire soundscape did this and worked very well because there was no point at which I felt calm. The Gestalt Principle that was represented well in this soundscape was the use of Illusion. There was a cacophony of sounds through out the soundscape, some of which matched up while others did not, but they all added very well to my interpretation of this representing anxiety

  2. A really good choice of a piano part was done for this soundscape. The upbeat, tense playing creates anxiety from the start. Time and space are represented through the increasingly intricate layers of sound, two of which being the clock and the race car flying by. The pictures correspond well with many of the sounds as well. The part that stood out most to me was the children yelling/cheering. The clock ticking creates anxiety because we have been trained since we were little that everything is on a strict schedule, and we panic if we are running out of time for whatever reason. The addition of ever-increasing chaotic sounds just builds on the anxiety more and more as the soundscape moves forward. This was a really good representation of anxiety, as not all of the sounds truly fit in, which was a good thing to do.
